Evelyn King was discovered in a way that sounds like a movie. She was an office cleaner at Philadelphia International Records and was overheard singing in the bathroom by a producer. Evelyn was 15 years old when Theodore T. Life discovered her. He assured her that he would make her a star. And, he did just that. Theodore Life is a Producer/songwriter/guitarist/vocalist and his biggest hit was Evelyn “Champagne” King’s 1978 million-selling single “Shame.” Now, 30 years out and still going strong, Evelyn King reveals to “Unsung” the unvarnished tale of a showbiz survivor. https://tvone.tv/5640/evelyn-champagne-king/
February 11, 2017, I (Queen) had the pleasure of meeting Evelyn “Champagne” King backstage during the 2017 Valentines Super Love Jam at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA. Didn’t get a chance to really chat with her because she was leaving to go back to the hotel. But she stopped for a few seconds so I could get a selfie.
Evelyn’s performance was amazing. When I tell you she still got it; she is in shape physically (body is fit) and her vocals are still where they were over 20+ years ago. My favorite songs by her are “Shame“, “Love Come Down“, and “Betcha She Don’t Love You“. I remember coming home from school in the 80’s doing my chores and dancing around the house to her music. The night I met her was a bucket list check-off.
Hopefully, one day soon I am able to do an exclusive interview with Evelyn “Champagne” King and get some current TEA on the RnB/Disco diva. Evelyn, if you are reading this hit me up so we can chit-chat.
Well, I guess this it is.
I’m Queen with Fashion Chit-Chat and I’ll be chit-chatting with you later, Bye !
